Portland Police and Fire to simulate emergency response to fatal car crash on Cumberland Avenue

PORTLAND, Maine – Wednesday, the Portland Police and Fire Departments in collaboration with Students Against Drunk Driving (SADD) will simulate a fatal car accident in front of the Portland High School, which will be witnessed by Portland High School students. The accident is designed to show the importance of making smart decisions when driving. The results of drinking or texting while driving can be devastating. Police and personnel will conduct an emergency response at the scene, which will be followed by notification of the family of the fatal accident. The accident simulation is intended to illustrate the potential outcomes of drinking or texting while driving.
While the accident scenario is underway, both lanes of Cumberland Avenue will be closed to traffic. Motorists will be detoured.
