Portland’s Riverside Golf Course opens Monday thanks to a mild winter and warm March

PORTLAND, Maine – This Monday, the City of Portland’s Riverside Golf Course (North Course only) will open to the public for 2012. Designed by legendary architect Geoffrey Cornish, the course has a reputation as being both player friendly and one of Southern Maine’s more challenging layouts. Rolling hills and a traditional beauty give the Riverside golfer an opportunity to enjoy open space in the city. With a number of challenges including sand, bogs, trees, golfers can test either their abilities at either the 6,406-yard 18-hole North Course or the adjacent South Course, a 9-hole layout over 2,900 yards (to open later this month).

In advance of the opening, Riverside Golf Course will host an open house Sunday, March 18, 2012, 8:00 AM to noon. The open house will give golfers an opportunity to sign up for season memberships and check out new merchandise. Through the Woods, the golf course restaurant, will be open for breakfast and lunch.
