2009/10 Winter Recreation Guides Available
From ice skating to dodgeball, the guide features numerous fun and affordable activities for all ages

PORTLAND, Maine – Portland Recreation has released its 2009/2010 Winter Recreation Guides, which includes information on programs such as sport leagues and outdoor programs for children and teens, adult fitness and athletic leagues, and aquatic programs for all ages. These fun and affordable programs are a great option for families looking for ways to enjoy the fall and winter without breaking the bank. From toddler gymnastics ($42 for six weeks) to the NBA/WNBA Fit Challenge (free) to Xtreme Teen Dodgeball ($1 per week), Portland Recreation has a program for children of all ages. Adults looking for fun activities can try out Hatha Yoga ($9 per class), take the “I don’t have a creative bone in my body” Adult Watercolor Class ($15 per session), compete in drop in volleyball ($2 per game) or take up ping pong on Peaks Island (free). The guide also includes schedule information for the city’s aquatics programs at the Riverton Community Center and Rieche pools. In commemoration of the Portland Ice Arena’s twenty-fifth anniversary, residents can find out about the learn-to-skate and hockey programs as well as a other opportunities the public has to strap on some skates.

• City Hall (1st floor Rotunda)
• East End Community Center, Reiche Community Center and Riverton Community Center
• All Portland Public Libraries
