We plan Portland's future by building upon the
City's distinct historic, cultural and natural assets to achieve a livable and
sustainable built and natural environment, exemplified by dignified and engaging
public spaces, a strong sense of community, and a diversity of healthy
neighborhoods and business districts comprising a vibrant urban
center.
The Planning Division, headed by Division Director Alex Jaegerman, is
responsible for the coordination of all short and long-range planning functions
in Portland to guide positive change toward a shared sustainable community
vision. The Planning Division has a staff of 13 (11.5FTE) and is organized into
four program areas:
- Long Range Planning including development and update of the
comprehensive plans district and neighborhood plan development and
implementation, transportation plans, and related programs;
- Development Review of zone amendments, site plan, subdivision and
related ordinances including reviews by the Planning Board;
- Historic Preservation program administration including historic district
and resource planning and regulation, including support to the Historic
Preservation Board;
- Public Art and Urban Design, including administration of the ½% for art
Capital Improvement Program, in support of the Portland Public Art
Committee, and urban design for streetscape, design review, and arts and
culture planning.
