Notice of Public Comment Period
The City of Portland has participated in the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program since its inception in 1974. Since that time, approximately $75 million have been allocated to fund community development projects and programs targeted to benefit Portland’s low and moderate income residents.
Public Services:
The Community Development program supports dozens of Portland’s public service agencies providing housing, homeless, health, substance abuse, child care, youth outreach, and community policing services.
Neighborhood Improvements:
In Portland’s eligible areas, the Program funds physical neighborhood improvements such as sidewalk and roadway reconstruction, parks, playgrounds, trees, handicap accessibility, and historic preservation.
Housing:
The City’s Housing Program is supported in part by CDBG as well as the Federal HOME Program. These funds are used for home buyer, renovation, and lead-based paint abatement assistance as well as to provide assistance to developers, both non-profit and for-profit, to build new affordable rental housing in Portland.
Eligible City Services:
Limited CDBG funds are also used to support the City’s long-range planning,
