Director of Nursing Services

Search extended The Barron Center is a 219-bed, municipally operated, long-term and skilled care nursing home including a 50-bed dementia unit. We take pride in our long history of kind, compassionate and individualized care. The Director of Nursing Services is a key position in our senior management team and assumes responsibility for the oversight of clinical practice, regulatory compliance, and above all, commitment to meeting the needs of residents and their families. The Director of Nursing Services will supervise a stable and high functioning staff of Nurse Managers and Supervisors. We will require an energetic and experienced professional with significant long term care experience who can set and maintain the standards for the future of Barron Center. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to oversee the departmental budget, regulatory compliance, staffing patterns and personnel issues. Requirements include current Maine licensure as a Registered Nurse with a Bachelorís degree preferred; thorough knowledge of State and Federal regulations governing the operation of a long-term care facility; a proven track record of success in nursing administration; considerable experience in rehabilitative, gerontological and long term care nursing; experience with active Quality Improvement Programs; proven ability to communicate clearly and effectively and the ability to lead a professional staff through continued change. Shelter Attendant

Oxford Street Shelter - Full Time, Project Position, 37.5 hours. Schedule is Thursday, Friday and Saturday overnights from 7 PM Ė 8 AM. In addition, a monthly two hour staff meeting is required. This is an awake overnight position at the stateís largest homeless shelter and related overflow sites. Duties include welcoming and registering homeless men and women in need of shelter, monitoring dorms, common areas, and shelter grounds. Frequent cleaning of dorms, common areas, bathroom and grounds as well as crisis intervention and triage for over 200 clients per night. Position includes rotation to multiple stations each night, including walking up and down flights of stairs and between multiple facilities several blocks apart. Also includes set up and take down of dormitories, including moving of mats, cots, chairs, tables, full laundry bags and other items as required. Positive attitude with exceptional patience and customer service skills required. Experience working in a homeless shelter and a valid Class C Maine Driverís License preferred. Telecommunicator (911 Dispatcher)

This is a critical position in Portland's Emergency Communications Center. The Communications Center provides 24-hour emergency/non-emergency dispatch services for Police, Fire and Emergency Medical services. The normal duties of this position include but are not limited to: work 8 or 12 hour shifts, to cover 24-hours a day 7 days a week, including holidays and weekends; communicates with police and fire units by radio; answers both emergency (911) and non-emergency telephones; provide Emergency Medical instructions over the phone for emergency medical situations; input data into computer regarding stolen property, vehicles, and guns; enter missing and wanted persons in state, local and national computer systems; other related duties as required. This is a fast-paced team environment that requires the following qualifications: graduation from high school or any equivalent combination of experience and training; ability to work with advanced computer-aided dispatching technology; capacity to act quickly, calmly and correctly in emergency situations; must be able to use tact and diplomacy in stressful situations; availability to work all shifts, including nights, weekends and holidays; strong listening, memory and multi-tasking skills; accurate typing skills; solid customer service skills.
