The Portland Exchange reduces the spread of blood-borne pathogens such as HIV and hepatitis B and C by exchanging clean needles and supplies for used equipment at no cost.

In addition, participants receive education on risk reduction, case management services, testing for HIV, hepatitis C, STDs and referrals to drug treatment programs upon request.

The Portland Needle Exchange Service is located at the clinic at 103 India Street  in Portland, and can be reached via phone at (207) 756-8024.

We also offer needle exchange, testing and prevention education at the Preble Street Day Shelter and Teen Center in Portland. Testing and exchanges are done discreetly and anonymously.

If you are interested in signing up, please come to our location on India Street. Tell the front desk receptionist that you are there for an exchange, and one of the staff will be paged.

You will be brought into the exchange room and asked a few basic questions regarding demographics and risk assessment. You will never be asked any personal information.

We do not receive any federal funding for our program and rely on grants and community supporters. If you are interested in supporting, The Portland Exchange with a donation, please contact our program director at (207) 874-8791.
