The Breathe Easy Coalition promotes the development of smoke-free environments through three initiatives: the Smoke-Free Housing Coalition of Maine, the Maine Tobacco-Free College Network and the Maine Tobacco-Free Hospital Network.
The program works through policy change, education and advocacy to reduce involuntary exposure to secondhand smoke and promote tobacco-free lifestyles.
Smoke-Free Housing Coalition of Maine:
The Smoke-Free Housing Coalition provides technical assistance to landlords,
tenants, property management companies, and public health professionals in
designing and advocating for the implementation of smoke-free policies in
multi-unit and residential rental buildings.

Maine Tobacco-Free College Network:
The Maine Tobacco-Free College Network provides technical assistance to college
administrators, health centers and student advocacy groups in order to create
tobacco-free campuses and promote tobacco-free lifestyles. This includes the
promotion of best practice policies that restrict tobacco use on the campuses of
higher learning institutions, educating students and staff on the health effects
of tobacco use and ensuring that post-secondary campuses have the tools to
assist, students, faculty and staff in quitting tobacco.

Maine Tobacco-Free Hospital Network:
The Maine Tobacco-Free Hospital Network provides technical assistance to
hospitals and health care facilities in addressing tobacco-free policies and
cessation on their campuses. This includes the promotion of best practice
policies that include the banning of tobacco use on hospital property, support
to clients and staff in quitting and supporting tobacco-free living within the
communities they serve.
