Adopt a Fire Hydrant

2/5/2008 - Please help the Fire Department help you! Each and every snow storm the Portland Fire Department takes to the streets to shovel the 1300 fire hydrants contained within the city. While the Department makes every effort to clear them in the first 24 hours it is a real challenge for the 12 fire companies on duty. Often times they are buried again or covered by someone shoveling a sidewalk. Please help us by clearing the hydrant closest to your house throughout the winter season.
