Public Meeting - Fox Street Parking Change

The City of Portland’s Department of Public Works (DPW) is seeking City Council approval to eliminate on‐street parking on the north side of Fox Street (approximately 13 spaces), between Anderson Street and Washington Avenue, in an effort to address on ongoing collision problem. Our review of crash data indicates that 16 collisions occurred on this section of Fox Street between 2017 and 2019. The nature of these crashes indicate they were likely caused by vehicles weaving around parked vehicles, or vehicles attempting to park.

The Bayside Transportation Master Plan, approved by the City Council, recommended this exact outcome in 2018, noting similar safety concerns.  The recommendation is discussed in Section 5.6.1 of the Plan, which can be viewed on the City’s website:

As per the parking change requirements set forth in Chapter 28 of the City’s Ordinance, this change will require two reads and approval by the City Council.  At this time, DPW intends to seek approval such that signage can be installed before winter. At this time, the City anticipates having an information session on this matter via Zoom on Tuesday, August 25 at 5:30 PM.
