Emerald Ash Borer Emergency Order in Place

Ash Borer Quarantine Area

In early October, a single adult emerald ash borer was recovered from a trap which was deployed by the City of Portland in cooperation with the Maine Forest Service in Payson Park.  The city is responsible for over 600 ash trees and thousands of others are found on private property and in the natural areas in and around the city.

An emergency order is in place to limit the movement of potentially infested ash material from the area around Portland, including the towns of Cape Elizabeth, Chebeague Island, Cumberland, Falmouth, Gorham, Long Island, North Yarmouth, Portland, Scarborough, South Portland, Westbrook, Windham, and Yarmouth in Cumberland County, Maine.

The order restricts movement of ash (Fraxinus spp.) products and hardwood firewood from the order area to areas outside the order or quarantine areas.  This order is in addition to the quarantined areas in York and northeast Aroostook Counties.  Learn more at www.maine.gov/eab.
