The City of Portland officially launched an enhanced version of its mass notification services via www.portlandmaine.gov/stayconnected. The new solution, provided through CivicPlus’ CivicReady system, has significantly improved the way in which the City communicates with citizens, and this is a great opportunity to make sure you are signed up for communications. The City will use the tool for routine news announcements and emergency alerts.
This mass communication tool allows Portland to communicate with citizens quickly and efficiently before, during and after an emergency. Citizens can be reached through email, SMS, voice calls and social media platforms depending on preference.
“We’ve had great success in communicating with citizens via our NotifyMe tool, but we’re really excited to take it up a notch with the enhanced features that CivicReady offers,” said Jessica Grondin, Communications Director for the City. “Citizens will have the ability to fill out a more robust profile in order to get notices about their immediate area as well as receive messages translated into other languages. As we begin to enter the winter months with parking ban notices and weather related emergencies, we hope people will sign up or log-in and expand their profile.”
With the enhanced communication system, Portland will be able to increase its community engagement and be better prepared in the event of an emergency. Citizens will benefit from easier profile management, increased communication speeds, the ability to receive notices related to a specific neighborhood, as well as the ability to receive notices translated in multiple languages.
We encourage all citizens to sign up at www.portlandmaine.gov/stayconnected today and enter their contact information along with specific notification preferences. Please be sure to enter a valid address so you are contacted when your area is being affected. In the event of an emergency this will allow the city to immediately notify citizens of an event.
The system also provides an app - AlertMe-Regroup for citizens. This user facing app allows people to quickly access their account on mobile and manage their profile, groups, and settings.
Existing subscribers should click the "log in here" button, enter their email address, and then click on "forgot password" in order to create a new password since the old system didn't require one. Once you log in with a new password, you can fill out your profile and set your preferences for being contacted.
