Two Upcoming Listening Sessions for Munjoy Hill Related to Zoning & Land Use

Feedback Requested

The City of Portland and City Councilor Belinda Ray announce two listening sessions to be held as part of the evaluation of zoning and land use tools on Munjoy Hill.

“These listening sessions will provide an opportunity for elected officials and staff to hear from residents, property owners, developers, and others about growth and change on Munjoy Hill,” said District 1 Councilor Belinda Ray. “As staff looks at trends, challenges and opportunities, it is critical that they hear directly from those who know the neighborhood best.”

These listening sessions will be held at the following times and locations:

Monday, February 26th, 7 PM to 9 PM, East End Community School

Saturday, March 24th, 11 AM to 1 PM, East End Community School

Munjoy Hill is one of the most popular neighborhoods in Portland. With that popularity has come new development. The pace of change on Munjoy Hill, and the design and character of buildings being constructed to replace older buildings, have caused some concern among residents. In December 2017, the City Council approved a six-month moratorium on demolitions on Munjoy Hill. In February, temporary zoning for the Hill was approved, to govern development until the moratorium expires.

Following the listening sessions, staff will propose any changes to the rules governing development on Munjoy Hill. Those proposed changes would go to the Planning Board in April, and on to the City Council in May.
