Fore Street One Way Only Starting August 28, 2017

traffic alert

Fore Street One Way Only Starting August 28, 2017

Beginning Monday, August 28, 2017, construction work on the Ocean Gateway Parking Garage will require the occupancy of a portion of Fore Street between India Street and Hancock Street until the end of 2017.  In addition to a single travel lane, allowing for eastbound travel only, a temporary sidewalk will be available, protected by a row of jersey barriers.

This work is one of a number of ongoing projects happening in the India Street Neighborhood this summer and fall, and is being coordinated with work already taking place at the AC Hotel across Fore Street from the parking garage.  Additionally, there are parking impacts taking place along India Street north of Newbury Street as part of a Unitil gas line replacement project, and some sidewalk impacts associated with development sites along India Street between Newbury and Middle Streets.

IMPORTANT INFO FOR MOTORISTS: Fore Street will be down to one lane only between India Street and Hancock Street starting Monday, August 28 for the remainder of 2017, which will accommodate eastbound traffic.  Westbound traffic should utilize Hancock to Thames streets.

IMPORTANT INFO FOR RESIDENTS AND LOCAL VISITORS:  Please note the temporary sidewalk for use along the south side of Fore Street beginning August 28th between India and Hancock, and please use it to maximize safety through these work zones.

SEEK ALTERNATE ROUTE, IF DESIRED

For travelers destined from the Old Port to Munjoy Hill and vice-versa, it is recommended to utilize Franklin Street and Congress Street to minimize conflicts and delays, particularly for westbound travelers.

NEXT PHASES

Ongoing parking impacts to India Street between Congress and Fore Street will continue into early September in association with the Unitil gas main replacement project as it works from north of Newbury Street to Congress Street.

A City-sponsored sewer relining project will begin September 11, which will first occur on Fore Street between Mountfort and India. This work will impact the availability of on-street parking on the inbound side of Fore between Mountfort and Hancock. The contractor will be utilizing the existing closed portions of Fore Street, then moving on to India south of Fore later in September, with occasional minor travel impacts.  However, it is expected that much of the India Street phase of this work will be done at night.
