Maternal & Child Health
The Maternal and Child Health program offers a variety of services to Portland residents including free home visits for residents who are pregnant or have a child up to age 5. Parents can self-refer using the contact information on the right, or may be provided a referral from a doctor.
At a home visit, a registered nurse provides support and education on:
• growth and development
• baby weight checks
• breastfeeding
• developmental assessments
• healthy eating
• child safety assessments, including lead hazards
Visits are provided in the family's home at no cost.
Additional services offered from the Maternal Child Health Program include:
• Parent Support/ Infant and Toddler Play Group
• Infant/Child CPR
• Parent Education
Play Groups are free and open to the public. No prior registration required. Closed when Portland schools are closed.

CPR for Infants and Children:
Portland residents with young children may qualify for an in-home CPR class. Call (207) 874-8475 for more information.
Breastfeeding:
Maternal and Child Health works to support breastfeeding, and promotes breastfeeding babies for at least six months.
Language-specific breastfeeding resources can be downloaded here: Arabic, English, French, Portuguese, Somali, and Spanish.
Parent Education:
We offer workshops on various topics of interest to parents of young children. Call (207) 874-8475 to be added to the mailing list.
Lead Screening:
We offer free in-home lead screening. Call 874-8475 for more information.
