"Portland Landing" is the concept name for the redevelopment of the the vacant lot along Portland's Waterfront, historically known as Amethyst Lot. The 3 acre property (along with 10 acres of water in the study area) sits on the waterfront, directly to the east of Portland Ocean Gateway.
Portland Landing will serve as a gateway from the city to Casco Bay, and as a welcoming landing to our city from the water. It will provide open space, native vegetation, storm and climate resiliency, stormwater treatment, recreation, and public event space. It will provide access for visitors of all ages to appreciate and connect with marine and shoreland ecosystems. It will provide hills with expansive views of Casco Bay, Ft Gorges and Portland's island communities. It will provide a landing for community sailing programs, public temporary berthing, and water taxi access. It is a place to touch the water, fish, eat lunch from local food trucks, attend special events and concerts, or just sit back and take it all in. All of Portland's residents and visitors can watch the ferries come and go, learn to sail, take a stroll along the promenade, or use it as a start and ending point to access Portland's extensive bike network. Portland Landing is for everyone.
