Physical Fitness Test

The physical fitness test consists of three elements: an untimed push-up test, a one minute sit-up test, and a 1.5 mile run. Candidates must meet the physical fitness standards (see chart below) in order to attend the Maine Criminal Justice Academy.
Scheduled  PT Tests  at Portland PD :
Wednesday March 9th at 11:00 AM
Monday March 14th at 1:00 PM
Saturday March 26th at 11:00 AM
Tuesday March 29th at 11:00 AM
Monday April 25th at 11:00 AM
*Free for PPD candidates

The video (on right) explains the fitness test requirements and provides instructions on how to successfully complete each element of the test. Please take the time to review the fitness requirements and adopt a training plan sufficient to ensure you are prepared to take the test. A significant number of candidates are unable to pass the fitness test and, consequently, must be removed from the hiring process.

Note that the fitness test may be taken at the Portland PD or at the MCJA. The test is given at MCJA on the first and third Wednesday of each month. Call the Academy at (207) 877- 8000 to reserve a spot.
